Travel to Hawaii

Yes, it's a bit more work than most states... but it's Hawaii! Lucky pet

  • All dogs and cats must have at least 2 original rabies certificates, the most recent of which has to be current, and the vaccines must have been given at least 30 days apart (count the first vaccine as day zero).

  • Microchip (does not have to be ISO compliant) must be in place by time of FAVN blood draw (and on the original FAVN form).

  • FAVN (this is a blood test that is basically a rabies titer) with results > 0.5 IU/mL.

  • All dogs and cats must have a flea and tick prevention medication administered by an accredited veterinarian at the health certificate appointment (a list of approved products is available on Hawaii's travel website).

*Breed bans are in place (please do not attempt to import a banned breed into this area)

Remember to apply for Hawaii's import permit prior to travel.

Travel to Guam

Similar to Hawaii's requirements, but even more intense to meet the 'less than 5 day with home quarantine' option.

  • FAVN within 12 months (this is a blood test that is basically a rabies titer) with results > 1.0 IU/mL, and no rabies vaccine may be administered after the FAVN blood test has been drawn.

  • Heartworm test (for dogs) results should be listed on health certificate.

  • Although slightly ambiguous wording exists on Guam's website, dogs and cats should have a flea and tick prevention medication administered by a licensed veterinarian at the health certificate appointment to ensure requirements are met

  • Additional vaccines (these are required, and cannot be given within 10 days of arrival)

  • DAP or DHP

  • Parainfluenza

  • Bordetella

  • Leptospirosis

  • FVRCP

Dogs

Cats

All pets require an entry permit prior to travel.

Travel to Puerto Rico

No blood tests required- hurray! But still a couple quirks to remember...

  • All dogs and cats over 4 months old must have a rabies vaccine within 6 months of arrival (if your pet receives its first rabies vaccine during that time, you must wait at least 30 days prior to entry to Puerto Rico).

  • Microchip (does not have to be ISO compliant) OR a metal tag on your pet's collar.

  • All dogs and cats must have a flea and tick prevention medication administered by an accredited veterinarian within 72 hours of arrival.

*Breed bans are in place (please do not attempt to import a banned breed into this area)

No import permit required for dogs & cats.
